Day 1 and 2
Villa San Michele is an exclusive hotel with just 18 rooms, absorbed in the green hills of Tuscan countryside, among centuries-old olive tree groves and refined vineyards, located just a few steps from Lucca and Pisa. The garden is a place to start the day with a great breakfast buffet. In the evening it is also possible to have dinner here, al fresco. The thousand year old Castello stands proud on the highest point between Florence and Siena amid the rolling hills and valleys of the Chianti region, with unspoilt 360 degree panoramic views. This magnificent historic monument hosts weddings and many other special events. The Castello is family run, and sisters Livia and Marta Zanzotto along with their cordial staff will welcome you and ensure you have the perfect stay. Relax again at the swimming pool with a glass of Chianti wine. On Wednesday we will have a welcome dinner outside in the courtyard of the castle. Tour Planning:
The tour starts on Sunday from Villa San Michele, Lucca and will finish on Friday afternoon in Pisa. Let Benjamino know what time you will arrive in Pisa, so he can arrange your transfer to the hotel.
Every day you will be driving around 2/3 hours on your Vespa. Enough time for coffee stops, gelato or an aperitivo around sunset time. Breakfast everyday is included, and dinner on the first and third night!
The planning is an example, the tour might slightly deviate from the planning due to weather circumstances or other factors.
Day 1: Arrival day
Finally, it's time for your Vespa adventure: From 14:00 you are welcome in Villa San Michele. At the end of the afternoon, you will receive the keys of your Vespa. A normal car drivers license (B) is sufficient. First evening is the perfect occasion to get to know each other, we organized a 4 courses Tuscan dinner in the garden at Villa San Michele. Also Benjamino will tell you more about the detailed outline of the tour. Since weather conditions might slightly influence the schedule of the week.
Day 2: Olive oil Tasting, Montecarlo and the hills of Lucca
The first day to hit the road, ANDIAMO!
Today we drive along the Monte Serre, the mountain that splits Pisa and Lucca. We will have an Olive Oil Tour at a family-run organic farm. Next to olive trees, they also have a hectare of kiwis and vineyards. Of course, we will taste all of their local products. After we drive to Montecarlo, a hilltop town famous for its wine. In the afternoon we will drive the 'Via delle Ville', the street of the villas. Around 16:00, you may choose to visit the city of Lucca or you can join Benjamino back to the villa to chill at the pool. Lucca is full of authentic osteria's and trattoria's, so definitely a must-visit to end your first day of Vespa driving in Tuscany.
Day 3: Andiamo nel cuore della Toscana
Today we are moving from Lucca to Santa Maria Novella. We drive a large part of the ancient route “Via Francigena”, the pilgrim route from England to Rome that runs right through Tuscany. On the way we will make stops in San Miniato and Certaldo Alto. San Miniato is also called the truffle mecca of Tuscany. Like many other villages in Tuscany, it is strategically located on a hill and was therefore of great importance for controls on the trade route between Florence and Pisa. In the afternoon, we will stop in Certaldo Alto, a picturesque village just 15 minutes away from your second accommodation. Time really seems to have stood still in this medieval village. There are several small bars and shops on the main street.
Day 4: Chianti Day, all the way!
The Chianti day is possibly the most beautiful day, especially if you ask Benjamino. Chianti is like a postcard where you will be amazed by the beauty of nature, panoramic views and hidden gems. A day in the Chianti region cannot be complete without a visit to a winery. So we have planned a visit to a winery, which is run by the only woman in the Chianti!
Day 5: Cristal blue water + picnic
We call today; Aquaday! So let's get ready to visit the waterfall in Colle di Val d'Elsa with us. This place is famous for it's crystal, and if you look at the river here you understand why. We stop at a supermarket to get all the nice Tuscan snacks for our picnic here. So no big fancy lunch today, but a nice refreshing picnic in the shade. Tonight we organize a Pizza Party, to enjoy one last time this beautiful castle.
Day 6: Return to Pisa
After 3 incredible days in Castello Santa Maria Novella we head back to Pisa. First we will drive to the medieval Manhattan of Tuscany; San Gimignano. This town is well-known and here you will probably figure out that it was a good idea to visit the less known places of Tuscany. It's a great example of mass tourism, so we only will make a quick stop, maybe a gelato at the famous Dondoli? After we will go to the 'Teatro di Silenzio' in Andrea Bocelli's hometown Lajatico, a magical place where he gives an outdoor concert every summer. We join the locals for a simple lunch, like all the workers in this town do too. After we will drive one more hour to arrive around 17:00 in Pisa. You can decide to stay a night in Pisa to visit this historic city, or travel on to, for example, Cinque Terre or Viareggio for some relaxing days by the sea!

Aan het nagenieten van een onvergetelijke week!! Een week italië anders dan alle anderen. Ik ben al meermaals in toscane geweest maar benjamin heeft mij een totaal andere kant van toscane laten ontdekken. Het toscane door de ogen van een kenner, de kleine plaatsjes waar je met je vespa toch net wat makkelijker komt, de mooiste routes en natuurlijk de italiaanse keuken. Denk aan een olijfolieproeverij, iets waar je zelf nooit zou komen. Invespino draait echt om ontzorgen, van bagage tot het reserveren van het restaurantje voor de avond. Toen we een stukje zelf gingen rijden belandden we direct op de verkeerde weg richting de snelweg. Erg fijn dus om gewoon lekker achter hem aan te kunnen rijden en te kunnen genieten van de prachtige omgeving in plaats van gefixeerd te zijn op de route of tripadvisor voor een uniek plekje. Hij is zéér gepassioneerd over Italië en komt iedere dag weer met leuke feitjes. De accommodaties verdienen het ook echt om even benoemd te worden, prachtige slow tourism plekjes. He is very passionate about Italy and comes up with fun facts every day. The accommodations really deserve to be named, beautiful slow tourism spots.
